DAN! Number 4..... Dr Linn in Irvine, CA
January 2010- Since the last time I wrote on our page a lot bio-medically has happened for Ben.  We have been through several DAN! doctors as we have been looking for one that has Ben's interests and that isn't totally overloaded with children.  Unfortunately it is a reality that there are so many children with autism and so few doctors that actually listen and believe that our kids can be helped.

Ben has made leaps and bounds this year and medically has done really well.  He has only been really sick once this entire year.  It is a big change from a little guy who was sick every month to being sick 1-2 times per year!  We have added so many supplements to help balance his body.  He still receives MB12 injections every other day and we have recently started nebulized glutathione which I must admit has its pros and cons.  The cons are hyperactivity and sensory seeking behavior. The pros are eye contact and more language... so I will have to say the pros outweigh the cons.

Dr Linn is fabulous.  He is in Irvine and not too far from us in Nevada.  It is a 4-5 hour drive and it isn't too bad.  We have set up a new plan for Ben and we are starting chelation on January 14th. We have done his metals tests twice now.  Ben is full of mercury, lead, arsenic, and other toxins. So we are going to get them out.  Hopefully once we do that we will be able to afford HBOT -which is oxygen treatments in a chamber to help get the cells moving to parts of his brain that may have been damaged by the metals.  We also want to do Tomatis this year which is a listening therapy.  All of these come with a hefty price tag but you have to do what it takes right?

JAN 2009
Dustin and I have decided to start with a DAN! doctor here in town.  Well, actually he isn't here in town, but he comes to Las Vegas 1-2 times a month.  His name is Dr. Radoff and it is expensive.  But so far...worth EVERY penny.  Dustin, Ben and myself went to see Dr. Radoff in early January for our initial consultation.  Ben was observed, examined and discussed the entire hour.  We were given a lot of information and within the next week, Ben was getting Methl-B12 shots.  Which is gets every 3 days.  (whew...I never thought I would be doing that!)  We had to get his blood drawn, urine samples (not an easy task) and stool samples to send away.  The furthest we sent any samples was Pee to France!!  It was quite a costly amount of tests and during that time we had to take Ben off of all of his supplements, which made him look sick compared to how he looked in October of last year, when he started his probiotics and was taking a few different vitamins.

On 3/7/9 (Dustin's Birthday) we went to the DAN! doctor for a follow up with all of Ben's test results.  I must say that the results did and didn't surprise me.  We knew that he had a gluten issue because he reacted with going to the gluten free/casein free diet.  These are things I didn't know
Ben has sensitivities to.. Almonds, Cantaloupe, Cashews, Coconut, Egg Whites, Garlic, Gluten (duh), Grapefruit, Lemon, Milk (duh), Mustard, Oats, Orange, Pea, Peanut, Rye, Safflower, Sesame, Soybean(uh oh), Sunflower, tomato, Walnut, Watermelon, Wheat, Brewers Yeast.

Sensitivities and allergies are different yet sort of the same.  If consumed they will not hurt him, but they definitely do not help him.  He eats peanuts and soy products everyday, so those may be hindering his body from functioning.  So we are going to be cutting those out the best we can.

Ben has a relatively high ionic calcium level which is has been directly linked to metals in the body. Ben does have arsenic in his body 3x the amount of an adult.  We are still waiting on the France test to see what metals are in his little body.  How did he get these metals you may ask...I ask the same thing and the only thing I can think of is all of his vaccines.

His blood work came out pretty good, as did his stool, which is great.

The urine test that we did from Metametrix was the worst test of them all.  His summary of abnormalities didn't even fit on one page.  His fatty acids are high, the energy production markers are all high to very high, the Neurotransmitter markers are high to very high, his sulfate is very low, the Bacteria is very high and his yeast is very high.

We need to get the yeast out and the bacteria out.  His body is creating ammonia and not excreting it.  We are going to increase his supplements, try to use suppositories to rid himself of yeast, and to use a topical cream for the bacteria.  If these options do not work, we will go to prescriptions to rid the body of these things.  They make his body function poorly and make it hard for him to learn.  I am excited to see where this is going to lead my son.  Even if the only thing that comes out of it is him feeling better, that is great with me.

Ben is currently taking Super Nu thera with P5P, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, MB12 shots, Omega 3-6-9. prothera complete, prothera detox, gaba, and the new things will start soon.

REMEMBER THIS IS WHAT MY SON TAKES, WHAT WORKS FOR HIM MAY NOT WORK FOR YOUR CHILD.  PLEASE DO NOT SELF MEDICATE WITHOUT SEEING A DR.  WHAT WORKS FOR ONE CHILD MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERY CHILD.  AUTISM IS A SPECTRUM DISORDER AND EVERY CHILD IS DIFFERENT.

We have another appointment with the Doctor in a few months.
